Blood Wedding possibly the best known of Lorea’s plays was written in 1932. It was first performed in Madrid in 1933 and was directed by Lorea Himself. In many ways blood wedding seems to mark a new point of departure of Lorea in Relation to his earlier plays. The experiments with the techniques of puppet theatre and farce and the hold incursions into the realm of surrealism become here the representation of a world that is more immediately recognizable, more real in the sense that its settings are Spanish houses and villages and its characters people with whose passions, for all their powers. We can identify. It is indeed, a play which reflect to a large extent. Through the medium of a simple, direct and powerful plot. The reality of the narrow and crushing forces of honour and tradition that heightened in rural areas. Were nevertheless characteristic of Spanish society in general, one source of the play. Was indeed. A real incident described in a Granada newspaper years before the composition of the play in blood wedding there is a palpable intention of taking the play’s atmosphere away from any nature of a newspaper story. From the field of the very human passions of concrete beings he removes to an unreal world. One in which the appearances of the mysterious and fantastic players as in the personification of the moon and death are possible Then he makes the flesh and blood characters rise to a plane less real. One which converts them into forces whose incentives are outside themselves. They have moved away from the newspaper account from which they came but have gained in human and poetic significance. They have been converted into anonymous hinges who possess a country’s generic Character. Whom does a triage personage, their fate, oppose. And who are led by this fate among songs and premonitions toward death.
